Maria Kristine was the most liked and most favoured daugther of empress Maria Theresa and the only one the empress allowed to mary for love. She appointed her son-in-law Albert of Saxony-Teschen a governor in Bratislava castle. The castle had become a luxury residence in which artistically inclined Albert and Kristine collected masterpieces from all over Europe. This collection has become the foundation for Albertina in Vienna.
