Zoological garden Bratislava

The Zoological garden Bratislava is situated in Mlynská dolina (4th municipality of Bratislava) not far from the  Danube river in the area of the bridge La Franconi. It serves popularizing tasks of animal world. The visit of the ZOO can increase the ecological feeling too. Gradually the recreational aspect is extended. The connection with the city is provided by the buses MHD no. 30, 31, 37, 39, 92 a 32 (from railway station) with the getting off on the stop Slávičie údolie and by the trams MHD no. 1, 4, 5, 9 , 12 and 17 with the getting off on the stop Botanická záhrada and then on foot ca 15 min direction Mlynská dolina - see the server www.google.com.  

ZOO Bratislava was opened for public in 1960. It is situated on 96 ha of Carpathian forest. We breed 1396 animals in 174 species. Our ZOO is a member of European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) and Union of Czech and Slovak zoological gardens (UCSZ). Our ZOO participates on 17 European endangered species programmes and 15 European Studbooks. ZOO Bratislava is the European Studbook keeper of Nubian ibex (Capra nubiana). New breeding facility for big cats was open for public in the 22^nd April 2006, the second one for great apes was open for public in the 22^rd April 2010. New exhibitions offer appropriate living conditions for South African Lions, Sumatran Tigers, Jaguars, Sri Lankan Leopards and for orangutans (Pongo abeli) & chimpanzees  (Pan troglodytes) as well as attractive, pleasant and educational place for our visitors.

The important activity of our ZOO is rescue of weak and injured species of free-ranging animals from our nature in the Rehabilitation centre of ZOO Bratislava. The integral part of our activities is education of visitors with the aim to create responsibility and raise awareness of the people in conservation of the nature.
